Ahead of his fight at UFC 271 against Alexander Hernandez, Renato Moicano told MILLIONS how the fight would end, “round 2 submission choke!” And that is exactly what happened. “Let me tell you, rear naked choke is the most base position in all combat sports, I did 88 times, everybody can do,” Moicano said to Daniel Cormier after the fight.
Moicano came out in the first round throwing leg kicks, putting the pressure on Hernandez as the clear aggressor. Moicano pushed the pace, got the clinch and forced Hernandez against the cage. Moicano scored a takedown, but Hernandez popped right back up. Moicano was relentless though, and he picked up Hernandez and slammed him to the mat and nearly found himself in the full mount position. Hernandez was tough and again found his way back to his feet.
As the second round started, Moicano looked true to his word, and clearly wanted to end the fight. He came out with even more energy and quickly landed a hard punch to the head that rocked Hernandez, causing him to slip briefly. Moicano then clinched up, hit him with some heavy knees, dirty boxing, and a big uppercut on the exit. Moicano knew he had Hernandez hurt and unloaded a combination that went left hook, right over hand, left hook, straight right, knee to the body, and down went Hernandez. Moicano took his back, locked up the rear naked choke, quick tap and that’s a wrap.
Moicano showed that he’s continuing to elevate his game and he clearly wants to get paid for it. Cormier asked Moicano about his future and what kind of fight he wants, and he says, “a big cheque performance…I have a son to raise, taxes to pay, a life to live. Big cheques, big money, let’s go! Moicano wants money!”
