Richmond's Rising Star: Quanye Veney Shines in Thrilling Victory over Maine

In a spectacular showdown on Saturday, freshman quarterback Camden Coleman showcased his prowess with six touchdown passes, leading Richmond to a thrilling 42-31 victory over Maine.

The game started with a bang when Coleman, in just his second start, fired a remarkable 65-yard scoring strike to Brooks Heagarty, putting Richmond on the board after they trailed 14-0. Coleman and Nick DeGennaro teamed up for a 56-yard touchdown, narrowing the gap to 17-14 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter belonged to Coleman, who orchestrated two consecutive 13-yard touchdown passes to Quanye Veney and DeGennaro. He then connected with Landon Ellis for an 11-yard score, giving the Spiders a commanding 35-24 lead at halftime. Coleman's third touchdown pass to DeGennaro, a 2-yarder, remained the sole score of the third quarter.

Maine had taken an early lead with Derek Robertson's 73-yard scoring strike to Joe Gillette and a 24-yard touchdown pass from receiver Montigo Moss to running back Tavion Banks.

Coleman's performance was exceptional, completing 25 of 36 passes for 365 yards, although he did throw two interceptions. DeGennaro played a vital role, making eight catches for 113 yards.

Maine's Robertson put up a fight, completing 18 of 25 passes for 315 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Backup QB Anthony Harris added 81 yards and a 2-yard TD pass to Gillette in the fourth quarter. Gillette finished with eight catches for 169 yards, but Maine struggled on the ground, rushing for only 11 yards on 18 carries.

Coleman, who previously passed for 224 yards and two touchdowns in his debut against Hampton, continues to shine as a rising star for Richmond. His impressive performance, along with standout plays from Quanye Veney and the team, ensured Richmond's victory in this exciting clash against Maine.
