Song Yadong Eyes UFC Gold: Confident in Championship Quest

December 13, 2023

UFC bantamweight contender Song Yadong continued to showcase his dominance in the octagon with a convincing victory at UFC Apex, marking his second main event win of the year. Despite the initial disappointment of a location change, Song remained focused on his goal and secured a unanimous decision against Chris Gutierrez.

After a remarkable knockout of Ricky Simón earlier in the year, "The Kung Fu Kid" expressed his aspirations in the post-fight interview, targeting former champion Petr Yan. With his sights set on the bantamweight title, expected to be contested in UFC 299 in March 2024, Song exudes confidence in his potential championship journey.

In a recent post-fight press conference, Song Yadong delved into the upcoming bantamweight title clash between Marlon Vera and current champion Sean O'Malley. Reflecting on his past encounter with Vera in 2020, Song addressed the controversy surrounding the decision, emphasizing his belief in deserving the victory.

"Our first fight, this guy has been preparing for six months, no one fought with him. His opponent kept getting injured, and the UFC told me about the fight two weeks before," Song explained. "At that time, COVID just started. I was in my home for one month, no training, not even running. The coach said I can do it, so I took the fight. But I didn't have good conditioning. But the fact is I won the first two rounds. You guys can look again."

Confident in his abilities both standing and on the ground, Song asserted, "Standup or on the ground, I can beat him up. He doesn't have confidence for a fight with me. I’m not a kid right now. I’m 26 years old."

As Song Yadong continues to build his case for a title shot, his unwavering confidence and determination set the stage for an intriguing journey in the UFC's bantamweight division.
