There are so many exciting matchups at UFC 270: Ngannou vs. Gane this weekend and you won’t want to miss Trevin Giles who is welcoming his opponent, Michael Morales, to the octagon. Morales is undefeated in his professional career, but Giles says Morales is taking a huge step up in competition, “I will give him respect and impose my will on him. He has yet to see an opponent my level and this will be his UFC debut, so that is a new experience for him.”
At 29-years-old, Giles has a lot more experience than the 21-year-old Morales, but the UFC veteran has been tackling a new challenge. Giles is dropping down a weight class, going from middleweight to welterweight, and tells MILLIONS he’s been successful so far, “it is going well. A lot more running and eating cleaner has helped the weight drop off fairly easy. I started at 207 and today I checked in at 184 so we are on track and feeling great!”
UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, has dominated the division with 15 straight wins, including five title defenses. But Giles now his eyes set on that belt, “I definitely plan on sticking to this weight class, which is hard because I love food....but I feel this is the right weight class for me and will stick here to climb the ranks. I see some really good fights in my future.”
So what kind of fight can fans expect on Saturday? Giles says whether they stand and bang, or hit the mat, he’s comfortable in any situation.
“We know he has good wrestling so we have been working on that defense and always sharpening up my striking. Counter attacks are another thing that I like to work on. I plan on being a complete martial artist and taking advantage of whatever openings I see. I feel my game gives me the ability to adapt in many different areas,” says Giles.
