USA Boxing’s Female Olympian of 2021 is opening up to MILLIONS about receiving the honor. We reached out to the Tokyo 2020 Games bronze medallist O'Shae Jones using the Personal Video feature and she responded with this short ask me anything video.
Jones says the honor “means a lot to me,” and she says it serves as validation, “it just seems like my hard work is finally paying off.” While that recognition is for her performance in 2021, Jones says there’s a lot to look forward to in 2022. “I’m in the middle of transitioning to the pros right now,” says Jones, “so you know, working hard on all the changes I need to get done.”
Jones found a lot of success as an amateur athlete, but the path to an Olympic medal was lined with hurdles. She wants other young women interested in boxing to be prepared to face adversity.
“It's going to be hard, it’s not going to be an easy road, it’s going to be challenging. And you know you’re not always going to win, you know, like every sparring match. So just make sure you know, you don’t get discouraged if you take an L or anything. It’s not a loss, it's a lesson,” says Jones.
You can support Jones as she makes her transition to the pros by buying her merchandise, and you can ask her anything.
